<abstract>This dataset is an inventory of Land Uses and Land Covers classified in the State of Florida. The dataset has been derived from data created by the five Water Management Districts and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Watershed Restoration. The land use and land cover classification level 3 code is defined by the Florida DOT's FLUCCS classification system. This dataset represents land use and land cover information derived from imagery for the following range of years; 2014 - 2019. Land use and land cover information provides environmental scientists an understanding of the relationships between human activities, land surface physiography and water resources. This layer was created by merging the following FGDL layers with priority given to the most recent data: LU_NWFWMD_2019, LU_SFWMD_2016, LU_SJRWMD_2014, LU_SRWMD_2017, and LU_SWFWMD_2017. This dataset is an update to the FGDL layer LU_L3_STATE_FEB20.</abstract>
<purpose>The data was created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analytical purposes.</purpose>

<procdesc>The following Water Management District Land Use/ Land Cover data sets were used in the creation of the data layer.
LU_SRWMD_2017 LU_NWFWMD_2019 (Newest dataset, publication date: 20210521)
LU_SFWMD_2016 LU_SJRWMD_2014
LU_SWFWMD_2017 The five WMD layers were combined in the order given above to create one statewide land use layer. Overlaps were erased giving precedence to the dataset with the latest date and the newest information.
Finally the newly created LU_L3_STATE_MAY21 dataset was cleaned up using the following techniques.
1. The geometry was then cleaned using the repair geometry tool.
2. The layer was then converted from multipart to single part.
3. The following fields were created and updated ACRES, AREA, LENG, SLIVER, and TEST. The following calculation was used to populate the SLIVER field: 4 * (( 3.14 * [area] ) / ( [leng] * [leng] ))
The TEST field was calculated using the equation [ACRES] * [SLIVER].
4. A selection was made where TEST &lt; 0.1
The Eliminate command was then run on this selection set.
5. Further slivers were eliminated using the following selection sets:
ACRES &lt; 0.5 AND SLIVER &lt; 0.2
6. Slivers that were not absorbed via the Eliminate command were later deleted.
7. Finally the repair geometry function was run once more and the ACRES field was updated.</procdesc>

The dataset has been derived from data created by the five Water Management Districts and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Bureau of Watershed Restoration. The land use and land cover classification level 3 code is defined by the Florida DOT's FLUCCS classification system. This dataset represents land use and land cover information derived from imagery for the following range of years; 2014 - 2019. Land use and land cover information provides environmental scientists an understanding of the relationships between human activities, land surface physiography and water resources. This layer was created by merging the following FGDL layers with priority given to the most recent data: LU_NWFWMD_2019, LU_SFWMD_2016, LU_SJRWMD_2014, LU_SRWMD_2017, and LU_SWFWMD_2017. This dataset is an update to the FGDL layer LU_L3_STATE_FEB20.</idAbs>
<idPurp>The data was created to serve as base information for use in GIS systems for a variety of planning and analytical purposes.</idPurp>

<stepDesc>The following Water Management District Land Use/ Land Cover data sets were used in the creation of the data layer. LU_SRWMD_2017 LU_NWFWMD_2019 (Newest dataset, publication date: 20210521) LU_SFWMD_2016 LU_SJRWMD_2014 LU_SWFWMD_2017 The five WMD layers were combined in the order given above to create one statewide land use layer. Overlaps were erased giving precedence to the dataset with the latest date and the newest information. Finally the newly created LU_L3_STATE_MAY21 dataset was cleaned up using the following techniques. 1. The geometry was then cleaned using the repair geometry tool. 2. The layer was then converted from multipart to single part. 3. The following fields were created and updated ACRES, AREA, LENG, SLIVER, and TEST. The following calculation was used to populate the SLIVER field: 4 * (( 3.14 * [area] ) / ( [leng] * [leng] )) The TEST field was calculated using the equation [ACRES] * [SLIVER]. 4. A selection was made where TEST &lt; 0.1 The Eliminate command was then run on this selection set. 5. Further slivers were eliminated using the following selection sets: ACRES &lt; 0.5 AND SLIVER &lt; 0.2 6. Slivers that were not absorbed via the Eliminate command were later deleted. 7. Finally the repair geometry function was run once more and the ACRES field was updated.</stepDesc>
